ADMISSIONS POLICY:

Hingham Nursery School and Kindergarten attempts to provide appropriate space for all applicants.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

Registration:

Registration for students presently enrolled at Nursery School will be accepted until 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Registration forms for new applicants will be accepted until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2010.

School cancellation due to weather does not affect these deadlines.  A $50.00 Registration Fee must accompany all registration forms.  This fee is non-applicable to tuition and is refundable only if space is not available.

School Acceptance For a Place at Hingham Nursery School:

Places will be available first to students presently enrolled; second to siblings of children who have previously attended this Nursery School, to children and grandchildren of employees of this Nursery School, and to children whose parent(s) attended this Nursery School, (this will be documented by Class Lists on file in the office), third to new applicants.  If the number of applicants exceeds the spaces available, a drawing will determine admissions of new students.  A waiting list will be established.  Twins are drawn on one card.  Spaces may be reserved for financial aid recipients at the discretion of the Financial Aid Committee.

As a result of the lottery for placement of children new to the school, it is possible that a family would have one child placed in a three-year-old class and the older sibling placed on the Waiting List for the four-year-old class. In this situation the child on the Waiting List would go to the top of the four-year-old list.  Should this situation involve more than one family, there would be a drawing to determine their position.

Specific Class Placement:

Applications will specify first, second and third choices for class placement. Children returning a second year to the same age program or a third year to Nursery School will be placed first.  Siblings of a third year or Hingham Nursery School kindergarten student may be exempted from the lottery in order for them to attend at the same time. All others will then be drawn.  First choices are granted when possible.  Second and third choices will then be granted.  A waiting list will be established as names are drawn, which will be used in the event that the first, second or third choice becomes available.  Children already enrolled will have preference if a class space opens up.

All applicants will be notified by mail.

After March 2, 2010, all applications will be accepted in the order they are received, provided there are openings or names can be placed on the waiting list.

Both a $350 non-refundable deposit and a signed contract are required by April 1, 2010.   The deposit for Kindergarten is $800 and is due April 1, 2010.

After April 1, parents accepting an opening must send the $50 registration fee and the $350/$800 deposit within 48 hours of being notified that a place is available.

Hingham Nursery School and Kindergarten's admission procedure is non-discriminatory with regard to sex, race, color, cfreed, religion, cultural heritage, marital status, political beliefs, socio-economic factors, and disabilities.
